Accelerated lifetime testing of thin‐film solar cells at high irradiances and controlled temperatures

Within this study, we investigate the intrinsic photostability of thin-film solar cells, here organic photovoltaic cells. Since degradation under natural sun light proceeds within timeframe months and years, process needs to be speeded up for fast material analysis screening, using high-concentration accelerated lifetime testing (high-C ALT). For purpose, established setups allowing irradiances 730 equivalents (SE). One key finding our study is that accelerating procedure by such large intensities possible but a precise measurement control cell temperature absolutely essential. Accordingly, developed an innovative method determining active layer which offers significant advantages over commonly used methods. Furthermore, it was found high illumination densities can well described stretched exponential law. We demonstrate kinetics P3HT:PCBM Arrhenius governed with activation energy 27.2 kJ/mol continuous 300 SE. Finally, shown velocity light-induced short-circuit current depends linearly on irradiance dose at given starting from normal conditions least This makes high-C ALT very valuable tool swift screening novel cells materials.
